BOXING – FLOYD MAYWEATHER (-450) vs.SHANE MOSLEY (+325)

Many people see Shane Mosley as perhaps the stiffest challenge for Floyd Mayweather in his career. [private]
Do you really think that a 38-year-old who has taken off 16 months from the ring is going to beat the same Mayweather who was still quick and sharp against Juan Manuel Marquez after coming back from his won 21-month layoff? I really don’t think so. I’ve never seen Mosley as a masterful boxer, nor a lights-out puncher. He is what I would call an “energy” fighter, and that energy has translated into speed. But he doesn’t have the same kind of speed he used to, and if he does, in spurts, can’t keep it going for twelve rounds. Mayweather is a speed fighter too, but he also possesses a lot of craft, and that is what will be difficult for Mosley to deal with.

Mayweather will let Mosley into this fight as much as he wants to. My guess is that Shane might take an early lead in the first couple of rounds, then Floyd will catch up and gradually pull ahead, and as often happens with him, the ninth round will end and all of sudden you realize that the opponent needs a knockout to win. Then Mayweather gets the chance to run out the clock.

He’s got more speed, and more class. He’ll cruise to a decisive 12-round decision as the -450 betting favorite.

College Basketball: MICHIGAN at KANSAS (12/19)

COLLEGE BASKETBALL — December 19

MICHIGAN at KANSAS
(Kansas 19.5) — [private] Michigan likes to play the up-tempo game, and takes a lot of threes. That’s John Beilein’s way of life. Kansas can certainly beat them at their own game, as the Jayhawks are shooting 51% from the field and averaging 90 points, both among the highest figures in Division I basketball. Kansas most assuredly has the stars to make the difference here, with point guard Sherron Collins and center Cole Aldrich bona fide All-America candidates. But don’t discount what Manny Harris, a do-everything point man for the Wolverines (22 points, 8.4 rebounds and five assists) can accomplish, and DeShawn Sims can help Michigan stay competitive underneath. Remember that the this same group from the Maize and Blue scored big upsets in the non-conference schedule against UCLA and Duke last season, and if they can get reasonably hot from the arc, they can cause some anxiety in a Kansas team that barely escaped by two points against Memphis in their biggest test yet.
